This is something that might be of interest to members who want to write a plot (or subplot) about an alien world of their own creation.
Episode eight of the "Writers Talking" podcast has writers discussing creating your own worlds, weather science-fiction or fantasy. Writers Mur Lafferty (from the “I should be writing” podcast, and author of podcast novellas Heaven, Hell and Earth) and James Patrick Kelly (published author of "Think like a dinosaur") discuss how they each have created and written about different worlds. They discuss drawing maps of the worlds, making stuff up as you go along, and how to explore the cultures and ethos of your world without getting too deep!
It’s really interesting to hear practical methods and there is a lot to take from this podcast. It gets a bit long-winded in the second half as the topic goes onto story editing and getting published, so stick with it only if you think it will really benefit your writing.
