Physical Appearance
5"11', around 12 and a half stone, athletic build & with the tell tale signs of a beer belly forming, but he's a bit sensitive about that. Short, mousy, dark blonde hair in a messed up style, usually has some degree of stubble. Not designer stubble mind, more like 'couldn't be bothered to shave' stubble. Dark brown eyes. Usually seen with a stressed frown, or a manic grin on his face, depending on the circumstances.
Personality and Interests
Cocky, irritating, brilliant, friendly, and reckless are all words used to describe Jay Chrysler in the past, depending on who you ask his own late wife once described him as a 'walking suicide mission'. The only things most people can agree on though are 'loyal, dedicated and selfless'. There would be few things that Jay would think of before he thought about his friends and crewmates, though that's not saying there's nothing...don't even think about touching the paintwork on his custom-built Blue Midget Hot Rod, the Phoenix.
When Jay was a pilot, and even the chief of navigation he was a relaxed, easy going guy who rarely felt over his head in any given situation – except maybe paperwork. He hates paperwork.
Jay is at his best when he's being shot at, or behind the control stick of a shuttle, in the heat of the moment his mind moves fast, and he will take whatever's being thrown at him and brush it off with a quick-witted one liner, and throw it right back, grinning through every second of it. He's quick to come up with a plan of action, although he'd be the first to admit that he doesn't always think them through, this said, it's very rare that his plans fail. At least until he has to come back aboard ship, and complete a report on his adventure. He hates paperwork.
However, while Jay thrives in conflict, adventure and as he would put, 'heroism' he stagnates in the mundane and he tends to feel he's bitten off more than he can chew with the endless paperwork that comes with being Captain. He hates paperwork.
His easy going, confident nature becomes buried under a layer of snarling, snapping, second guessing and stress when there are no adventures going on and he has to deal with crew reports and resource management. He hates paperwork.
He enjoys spending his spare time at the bar, drinking with his friends Phil FeBuggure and Dean Thomas, he's known as somewhat of a pool shark, and of course, has an unhealthy obsession with his shuttle.
Jay's biggest weakness is probably also his greatest strength. He always want's to do what his morals tell him is the right thing to do, and this can lead to him rushing headlong into dangerous situations without thinking. At the same time, it's this determined morality that people have come to respect the most about Jay. Of course, he might think twice about doing the right thing if it involved paperwork. He hates paperwork. This attribute stems from his greatest fear. Becoming like his counterpart from an alternate universe, Evil Jay. Jay knows only too well what he's capable of if he loses sight of his values. A lot of people have been hurt that way.
Did I mention he hates paperwork? Because he really smegging hates that.
History
Jay passed all of his academy written exams but when it came to the practical flying test he really shone passing without crashing any Starbugs, something never before seen in the JMC, or the Space Core, and a record yet to be broken.
Jay was previously assigned to the Red Dwarf, but transferred off shortly before it disappeared, he was then briefly assigned to the Ulysses where he met Kara McGellen with whom he formed a firm friendship , but applied for the Blue Dwarf when he heard about its mission.
He later became the first pilot to pull off an emergency landing in a Dwarfstar class starship, which theoretically is meant to be impossible, partly due to the fact Dwarfstar class ships aren't supposed to go near planets. This became known as the Chrysler Manoeuvre.
Jay was widowed when his wife, Captain Alota Chrysler was murdered by the amnesiac, bliss addicted, Amber Keats who had formed an alliance with Evil Jay.
Jay became the galaxy's most wanted man having been possessed by Evil Jay and led the Hymenoptera into a war against humanity, and destroying the Aeron, Eniram and Plebian homeworlds, along with New Ibiza and the Planet Earth itself. As a result he took to hiding aboard Blue Dwarf. However, after travelling back through time to save Earth, he was reinstated and is now heralded as a hero, although he was unable to save Alota.
Following these events Jay's younger sister Vanessa Chrysler, a member of Doctor Keto's medical staff was revived as a hologram, following her earlier, premature death for which Jay had blamed himself.
Jay became Captain of the JMC Blue Dwarf in September 2108, after it seemed apparent that Jed Calvert wouldn't be coming back after he was shot and wounded by Andy Roos.
He is currently dating engineer, Katrina Salter.
