The Hymenoptera
The Hymenoptera are a race of cruel, callous insectoids who attack planets by swarm and mercilessly kill all lifeforms on it. The word "hymenoptera" is a classification of a type of insect, which wasps, bees and ants belong to. The Hymenoptera are very similar, but much much larger. A normal Hymenoptera warrior is about the size of a horse, whilst various different sub-species can be as large as a building.
The Hymenoptera's main goal seems to be to suck all nutrients from a planet and then move onto the next, like a large swarm of locusts.
The Hymenoptera have a hive-mind, this makes them extremely focussed on their goal, but it has been known that they have sought the leadership of single humans, and obeyed their orders with unquestionable loyalty.
The Hymenoptera communicate normally by injecting a mandible into a humans neck, and invoking an unconscious dream. The person experiences themselves floating, with the faceless Hymenoptera talking in a booming voice. They can also select a person to be their representative.
History
The Hymenoptera were first encountered by the JMC Blue Dwarf in 2101 and have been encountered many times since.
In 2105 the Hymenoptera were lead by the "Evil" Jay Chrysler (from a parallel universe) and their massive army was used to wage a bloody battle against the Space Corps, resulting in Earth being destroyed (until the Blue Dwarf crew went back in time to change history).
Ships
The Hymenoptera have a wide selection of spacecraft, from small one-person fighters that are actually alive, to massive hive-ships that are home to an entire travelling colony.
There are many different shapes and sizes of ships in-between. The crew of the Blue Dwarf has encountered a fast-moving battleship shaped like a scorpion, a small shuttle shaped like a wasp that can be flown by a human (if they know what they're doing), and various-sized spider-shaped ships.
Some ships that have been encountered work by telepathy, and some by emitting various scents or odours, this can be quite difficult for a human.
