Needing raw materials to repair the ship after the last battle, an asteroid is mined for ore. Unfortunately an ancient Ffionian virus is contracted from the asteroid which quickly spreads around the ship, making everyone's hallucinations turn to reality. Dr. Keto finds a cure and a team spray ointment around the ship. Capt Cannon goes mad because his wife and daughter are killed by some Gelfs, his anger hallucinates into a beast which kills 3 crewmembers. 

The BD is ordered to the planet Argus to resolve situations between Human colonists and the Piks'e' Gelfs. Unbeknown to the crew, these were the Gelfs that murdered Captain Cannon's family and he orders the ship away from the area while he stays behind to blow up the Gelf's asteroid base with a nuclear warheadfrom the newly-installed missile launcher. Commander Niples follows him and is too late to stop the bomb from exploding, killing Niples and everyone on the asteroid. Kayn turns the BD around and is just back in the nick of time to save Niples from being blown up with the asteroid.

Robot wars competition

After a party for Niples promotion, Whitewolf's promotion and Cannon's death, Chief Engineer, Jason Smegg, hits upon the highly bright idea of creating a Robot Wars spin off competition. Readily the crew jumps at the opportunity to do so and all begin building robots of mass destruction, the ultimate winner being the robot Kamikaze.

Also hijinx involving the STCP entail part destruction of MacKenzies and a large bill for the Security Dept.

Stewie MacKenzie, owner of the MacKenzie's department store, sets up his own version of the famous play Phantom of the Opera, with many other crewmembers, who somehow pull it all off successfully. Evil Phil runs riot throughout the ship, threatening to kill people before being captured by DJ Longwood. Niples Leaves for offworld duty and Commander Whitewolf is made acting Captain. A distress beacon from an escape pod of the Red Dwarf is found and the crew go to investigate. 

Starbug flying over planet

Stuck on the hostile planet, the away teams find remnants of a lost civilisation and Star Trek-esque beings watching a primitive race to see how they evolve. Jay is taken by the advanced race for violating laws and placed on their death row with Chen, the missing Red Dwarf crewmember, Alota and Shakespeare lose themselves down tunnels, and Harris dies. Eventually, with Acting Captain Whitewolf, Zack Richards and Cubie taken by time periods unknown, the remaining members of the away team return to the Blue Dwarf, now without leadership.

The Shennanigans involving the loss of Whitewolf, Zack Richards, Cubie, Stewie and Evil Stewie are resolved, the STCP is foiled, Harris returns to BD a year older, and life tries to return to normal aboard the Blue Dwarf. The crew is joined by six new crewmembers, and Owen Numan decides to emulate the popular voyeuristic TV Show Big Brother with ten of the crew going into the back of Parrots for some time, with someone voted out of the house every three to four days. The new Psychiatric Department moans for a bigger budget, the medibay loses it's chief surgeon and an elephant currently rampages over the lower decks.

The Blue Dwarf crash makes headline news on the local paper

Returning to the area of space known to be inhabited by an alien race, the Blue Dwarf is chased by two giant spider ships similar to that discovered at Ffion. To escape certain destruction, the BD flies through a huge gate, which transports it instantaneously to another planet. It is only by some superb flying by Jay Chrysler that the Dwarf escapes utter annihilation and merely crash-lands in an ocean (crashing a non-atmospheric vessel into an ocean inside an atmosphere later becomes known as the 'Chrysler Manoeuvre'). As the Blue Dwarf rushed through the mysterious gate, several marooned astronauts, including fighter pilot Joanne Peiades, made a break for survival and boarded it before it flew through. M'Ress, a member of an exotic alien race flying her Meowth Ranger craft, accidentally collides with the Dwarf and gets pulled through the gate as well. As a side effect of passing through the gate, Doom Harbinger, the notably insane security team member, reappears and begins to tell of death, darkness and doom...as usual.

In an attempt to get the Dwarf spaceborne again, Jay Chrysler ejects all the ship's alcohol stock into the ocean, poisoning billions upon billions of microscopic organisms, and causing several dozen multicellular ones to seek him out for vengeance as their withdrawal symptoms become noticeable.

The BD escapes through the "Space Gate"

The Dwarf is stabilised and no longer sinking, but as yet the repairs necessary for it to take off are not complete. A small team of crewmembers aboard a Starbug, Commander White Wolf at its head, are captured by an alien race calling themselves the Aerons. The Aerons believe the BD crewmembers to be spies for their enemies, the Eniram.
After agreeing to help in order to save their lives, the Starbug team escape by commandeering an Eniram submarine and heading back towards the Blue Dwarf.

The Blue Dwarf, however, is already under attack. The Eniram, seeing this giant ship floating in their territory, attack it. The entire crew serves valiantly in helping to repel the attack as best they can, but several crew members are captured and taken to the underwater Eniram city of T'kha'bath. After a daring escape (by placing Eniram knock-out gas in the circulatory vent system), the captured crewmembers escape. Deciding that they have far, far better things to do than get caught in the middle of a war, the BD crew trade the location of the Eniram base to the Aerons in exchange for engines powerful enough to get back off the planet. As a result, the Aerons and the Eniram both launch missiles at each others bases, wiping both of them out. The few Aerons, given fair warning, that managed to escape follow the BD back through the gate...and are picked off by the still-waiting spider ships. This distraction gives the BD the time it needs to escape.

In an attempt to regain confidence in his relationship with hologram Allie Fletcher, Commander White Wolf attempts to utlise Lawrence Trisees' personality-splitting machine, after performing several modifications on it. Due to a malfunction, the machine creates one dark, decisive half and one light, insecure half. Oh, and as a side effect it also throws the Dwarf into the alternate "Evil" dimension, where they are accosted by a version of the Red Dwarf - containing evil reflections of all the crewmembers.

Giving asylum to an apparently innocent version of Arnold Rimmer, the Blue dwarf is again invaded, this time by their evil doubles. With Jay Chrysler wielding a katana at the head of the Red Dwarf Security Department, and a psychotic version of Kayn Bestrom holding himself hostage, as well as half a dozen clones of Patrick Cerebrum, chaos reigns aboard the Blue Dwarf until a final confrontation results in the death of the Red Dwarf Captain David Lister - at the hands of one of his own crew.

Whitewolf becomes Captain

Captain Niples looses his memory of who he is and Whitewolf takes over as commanding officer.

The evil brunette double of Seymour's blonde girlfriend Katrina takes advantage of his amnesia and makes him believe he is going out with her, and tries to turn him against blonde Katrina.

Jay Chrysler and Alota Viagra tie the knot and there is much celebrations and drunkedness, including a Halloween party where Jay came as Dr. Keto and scared children.

A team lead by Jay, Keto and Tara crashed on a planet (Jay got quite a lot of stick about that) answering a call from an alien research outpost and end up being chased by nasty dinosaur creatures. And the Promenade was converted into an ice rink by Dren.

On the Dinosaur planet Cerebrum uses a machine to split Lawrence Trisees and his Shakespeare alter-ego into two people, he succeeds but Cerebrum is turned into V.I. Lenin and starts a communist revolution on the Blue Dwarf with an army of scutters. Whitewolf is shrunk into a 4 inch hamster and drives around the Blue Dwarf in a toy humvee, leaving Allie Fletcher as acting-Captain. The snow on the promenade melted and floods the shops, while crazy singer Vinny Soprano turns up and claims that he's going to fly the Blue Dwarf into a black hole for the grand finale of his concert. The dark universe version of Katrina kidnaps her double and heads off in a Starbug, Jay and the amnesic, naive and confused Niples pursue, tethering them with a grappling hook and rescuing the correct Katrina, as the other floats in a spacesuit through the black hole.
