Geek Corps Radio

Geek Corps Radio for RPG discussion

Added : 8th October 2007

The choice of podcasts around at the minute is vast, many focussing on different  topics.  There are many that focus on hobby topics, and honestly dub themselves "geeky". One of the best I have found around.

From their own description:

GEEK CORPS RADIO is a podcast about geeks and the geek way of life. We will be discussing Movies, RPG's, Video Games, Computers, Table-Top Games, Mini's, Comics and so much MORE.

It is their discussions about table-top games that makes them worthy of this article. Their podcast gives a familiar insight into the world of tabletop role-playing, which is really no different to role-playing on the web, aside from it being done face to face. Geek Corps Radio provide lots of regular features about role playing, including a "Best gaming quotes" where they recount funny moments in their own games, and "Randomly generated plot hooks" where they pick random items to include in a short role-playing campaign or story.

Randomly generated plot hooks is their most creative feature, where they invite listeners to write in and suggest random objects or characters, then on the spur of the moment create a semi-comprehensive storyline out of them. This can have unpredictable results, and is usually hilarious – but is often very useful for generating ideas in your own minds. The theme they use is generally fantasy D+D, but they often make it generic enough that it can be used for role playing games of all types. The feature is aimed at GM's, but can be applied to any writers, in general posting, or when developing sub-plots. I have more than once used their randomly generated ideas to stir the creative juices in my own mind when writing a post.

Geek Corps Radio also provides other general information and resources for your own role-playing experience.
