Jay came aboard the JMC Blue Dwarf in January 2101. He became Captain 7 and a half years later.
Jay gets promoted to Captain, and Amber to CNO

Jay is replacing Jed Calvert as Captain of the JMC Blue Dwarf. Jay showed himself completely able to command after his short stint as the Commanding officer of the SS Enlightenment BETA v0.22, the holographic ship that was sent into the Krylon dimension to bring back the JMC Blue Dwarf.
Jay is replacing the cowboy Captain Jed Calvert who we haven't seen since he was shot by Andy Roos - having been encouraged by the mysterious "Potential" guy. Calvert was wounded, but not killed, and started bleeding green blood. This was a bit of a shock as Calvert was “supposed” to be Human. This still hasn't been explained fully.
Also other big news is that Amber Febuggure will take Jay's old job and become Chief Navigation Officer. It's a big responsability, but Amber gets no promotion in rank due to not posting often enough *Mod slap!*
Other crew changes
The "Flight Technicians" department is going to be merged into Engineering as we're a bit low on engineers at the moment. Although both departments are very similar, they were split originally to
distinguish between engineers who spend their time fixing Starbugs, and those who fix the Blue Dwarf.
Katrina Salter (Jay's NPC girlfriend) will change from "Flight Technician" to "Engineer".
Justin Pancake will change from "Starbug Mechanic" to "Trainee Engineer".
The janitor Andy Roos who has died will go into the "Old characters" section.
Kara McGellan to be promoted from "Ensign" to "Lieutenant"
Lester Seventeen-Dot-Phelps will be promoted from "Technician 2nd Class" to "Technician 1st Class"
Ensign Leon RyuKai and Scott Yorah are being removed from the roster cos they seem to have disappeared off the face of the internet!
