Katerina - Red Dwarf science officer

Something new and exciting was announced this week about the new Red Dwarf episodes "Back to Earth" - a new character!

Seeing as Kotchanski has been mysteriously killed off and Holly has been "temporarily" deactivated, it makes sense to roll out a few new characters. This was still a bit of a shock though!

Sophie Winkelman (the posh and sexy "Big Suze" from Peep Show) plays a character named Katerina, a hologram of a dead crewmember from the Red Dwarf. They've just released a photo of her on the Dave website. Dave has this to say about it:

"This exclusive image reveals for the first time the nature of guest-star Sophie Winkelman's character. Named Katerina, she's a surprising addition to the crew - a resurrected hologram of a Red Dwarf science officer intent on replacing Rimmer. That's right - she's Arnold's nemesis!" (see article)

Something that had never occured to me was that these specials might lead to another full series. Having seen the cast talking on-stage at a convention about wanting to do a film to tie it all up, I just thought this was going to do the same... it was going to be the last Red Dwarf ever. But if they're introducing some fresh new faces, then can they really keep it going for longer?
