RD on your mobile - is it worth it?
Despite no word yet on the film, and things looking extremely bleak as to whether we will ever see one, Grant Naylor Productions has obvious not given up on Red Dwarf. This month they have launched Red Dwarf on your mobile.
I'm always dubious about viewing anything on my mobile that I have to sent a text to subscribe to and worry that I'll be bombarded with expensive text messages telling me to download the latest Crazy Frog music video. But as this is Red Dwarf I'm curious to see what the new content is like.
What It's about:
So far four animated mobisodes, specially created for your little phone screens, have been released: 'Red Alert', 'Smeeeeg Heeeead', 'Everybody's Dead, Dave' and 'Peanuts'.
Better yet, amidst the wallpapers and chatwalls there are over 60 newly-created voicetones available. They're performed by Chris Barrie and Robert Llewellyn in character as Rimmer and Kryten respectively... including the odd alternate personality such as Ace Rimmer, Jake Bullet and the Data Doctor.
They're all available from www.red-dwarf.mobi, including tones created especially to be the voice of your answer message, text or calendar alert.
Expect new character voicetones to be added in the coming months, plus brand new mobisodes each and every week!

To promote the release of the episodes especially for mobile, a TV advert (available on YouTube) will show the style in which the mobisodes will be in, and it looks like a simple Flash-animation style.
