Tara Febuggure dies
Added : 18th August 2007
Deputy CMO Tara Febuggure died this week in a giant blender. The character has been a Blue Dwarf regular since January 2001, making her one of the longest-running characters of the Blue Dwarf story.
Tara was introduced in 2001 as a flirty nurse, interested in such sports as “swimming, horse riding and watching men work hard”. She was described as having “blue eyes, blonde hair, size 5 feet, big breasts and [is] very attractive”.

Tara then grew over the years into a character far different. In the penultimate post before her demise we were 're-introduced' to Tara, showing she is a kind and caring parent to her two children, especially Rufus.
"Here you go honey, I know you spend a lot of time in the lab, so here's some home cooking to keep you going." She smiled at her son and kissed him on the cheek, he was barely three years old and already he was so grown up.
"Aww Mum... Ewww" Rufus said, and brushed his cheek. He picked up his lab coat and put it on. "Thanks for dinner Mum."

Only moments later, Tara along with the rest of the Blue Dwarf crew were beamed down to the Mollopod planet, inhabited with slugs who have a taste for human flesh. Tara appeared in a large blender. Being trapped inside the monstrous machine only metres away from her husband Phil and her son Rufus, Tara cannot escape.
There was a faint whirring noise below Tara.
"Whats that noise?" She said, her legs beginning to get tired. Then her brain caught up and she looked down at Rufus and Phil. "Don't look Rufus. Please, cover your eyes." The whirring gained in pitch an volume. The blood began to froth and churn as the lower blades kicked into action.
"Tara? TAAARAAA!" Phil yelled, rushing to the plastic shell of the blender.
"I lo..." She began to say, before slipping under the surface, a strangled scream echoing around the area.

It was a gruseome end for Tara, but one that will certainly be memorable.
Over the years, many momentous things happened to Tara Cleavage. In November 2001 Tara gave birth to twins Amber and Rufus, the pregnancy was painful and Tara's close-to-the surface anger was let loose, giving Keto a broken nose.
Coffee brought back in the little girl and gave her to Tara. Two crying little bundles looked at her, and she felt deeply satisfied
"Do you know what you two have just put me through?" she queried to the twins.

Then in May 2002, Tara Cleavage married ex-hologram, Phil Febuggure to become Tara Febuggure when they eloped, announcing their marriage only on their return by shuttlecraft.

Tara was played by BD Moderator Rebecca Tordoff. The decision to kill her primary character was one she didn't make lightly. Becca explains:
"I love Tara, I love her to pieces I really do. Which makes even myself wonder why I did it. I'm getting used to the idea of it now though. I love Tara a lot, she was my first character on Blue Dwarf and I've had some great times with her and have written some great posts. Recently however I've found myself drifting from her and not using her as much as I should be, which is a shame. So I decided to kill her off as a way to force myself to take a break from the character and see if I really needed her to be there, or if I was only keeping her for sentimental reasons. I wanted to make an impact with her death as well, so I decided spur of the moment to do it, and see how people would react."
But of course in the Red Dwarf universe, people don't have to stay dead forever, as they can easily be brought back as a hologram.
"I might bring her back one day, but it will be after I've finished University and have settled down in a job I think. Even then it will be if I've missed using her."
