A wormhole folding the fabric of space
"Really? You can equip us with the wormhole drive?!" Alota said. "We'll be the envy of the fleet when we get back to our timeline! And I'll be praised as being the commanding officer that brought it with us!"
A quiet grumble of 'I could have done that when I was captain' came from the back corner of the room.

Wormhole Drive
Wikipedia says-
"a wormhole is a hypothetical topological feature of spacetime that is essentially a 'shortcut' through space and time."
Wormhole Drive is a prototype device developed an alternative to conventional plasma drive systems, or rather, to augment them. Provided that relative spatial coordinates are put in, the wormhole drive can transport the vessel anywhere in a matter of seconds.
It works by charging the forward-facing ram scoops on the bow of the ship, and generating a slipstream spatial anomaly directly in front of the ship. A partner wormhole is formed through subspace at the exit coordinates, thus resulting in an ‘entry’ and ‘exit’ portal through which the vessel can pass.
Travel is not restricted to the ship the drive is attached to, however, but rather any ships that can pass through the wormhole’s event horizon will be transported as well. It also looks pretty.
The Wormhole Drive was first developed in an parallel dimension and added to an alternate version of the Blue Dwarf.
It was looking bad for the Blue Dwarf, when suddenly, the space next to it rippled and a wormhole
opened up. Out of that wormhole came...The Blue Dwarf.
It was somewhat different, though, with a variety of laser, plasma and nuclear beams mounted on it, and it started blowing away the rest of the defence stations.

The device has allowed the Blue Dwarf to get to places much faster, and escape dangerous situations. It has also made the ship a target for criminals hoping to get their hands on this technology. In the wrong hands the Wormhole Drive could be used for surprise attacks and invasions.
The actual Wormhole Drive is a large piece of machinery in Engineering. It can be activated either from the Drive Room or from Engineering.
Canazza stood there, completely covered in grease and oil, holding a wrench and a sonic Screwdriver, infront of the biggest piece of technology he'd ever seen.
The wormhole drive was twice as big as the all Hydrogen compressors combined, and it took up 90% of the remaining space in the engine room to hook it up. As a result, Engineering was allowed to expand into the toilets across the hallway, and 5 consoles were set up in the mens room. Many an officer could be seen trying to find a tap on them, and in extreme cases (extremely drunken cases) were seen urinating on them, thinking that they were common ceramic urinals, causing them to short circuit and, ofcource, shock the perpetrator rather nastily in the groinal area.
Joseph entered engineering holding his crotch.
"You know" Canazza said, spotting Severn's position, "You DID set those consoles up yourself"
"smeg off,"
